I watched your review and it was spot on! I'm Baker's nephew and reading the comments it sounds as though people are describing the men themselves (Booker & Baker). Booker was a boisterious, impatient at times type of person, Baker is more laid back but can be serious and firm. The borbouns are named correctly. They match the men they were named for.

Hey Joel:

I went back to score another bottle of the 2000 "if" there was any still on the shelf. Low and behold there was 1 bottle left and this bottle actually came out of barrel 37 and was barreled on my birthday, pretty cool! I asked the manager how in the world the 2000 vintage randomly ended up on their shelf. He said they recently purchased a small mom and pop store down the street and it was a part of their inventory that they were tying to get rid of. I did see a 2002 vintage on the shelf behind it. Had anyone tried it and if so, how does it compare to the 2000 and 2001?

the current stuff is CRAP, a slap in the face to the S-W juice that made RB so desirable. if the current owners (luxco?) have any interest in reviving the brand, they better source their distillate from someone else. for current wheaters, i don't think weller 12, weller special reserve or old antique weller can be beat for the price. i don't need to mention pappy because everyone else does and just in case they needed help, it seems to show up in every episode of "justified" this season (in the last episode, you can see the top of a pappy 20yo). anyone who missed out on the current (2011) pappy 15 should try the vintage bourbon 17yo.

the masterson's is significantly cheaper here in texas, probably because rye doesn't sell well here. i'm with texas (the poster), the willett and jefferson's are compelling purchases for less money. however, since i can't buy whistlepig here in texas, i'll probably get a bottle for comparison purposes.

the rittenhouse rye is becoming increasingly difficult to find here in texas. the stores got a big shipment in about a month ago. isn't the distillate changing soon? grab some bottles while you can fellas.

Thanks for your opinion Jasonand I do highly value it. That definitely affects risk/reward of getting a whole case at the low price. I'll pick up only 4 btls or so now. That volume represents a reasonable consumption rate of one specific product for six months around here, with our group involved. So many good things out there to try !

This is a fantastic bourbon! I'm relatively new to bourbon and bought a few bottles based on your informative reviews. A couple of them were much more expensive than the Elmer T. Lee. Funny thing is that I have been enjoying this one so much that I have not been spending as much time with the others. My suggestion for those new to bourbon and looking for something superbly crafted at a modest cost is to look no further than the Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel. It's a great place to start your bourbon journey and you won't regret it.
